A touching, childlike, and candid story about the days of the blockade — as seen by little Misha, who remained with his parents in besieged Leningrad. It not only reveals the signs of the times to the reader and tells "how it was," but also teaches how to be strong: after all, it is not every day that you suffer from a "very mild scarlet fever" or try to walk with a crutch because you have a shrapnel wound. And, of course, it inspires pride in real heroes: Misha's mother, who can defuse a blockbuster bomb herself, or policeman Ivan Fedorovich Blinchik, who never abandons his post, no matter what happens. And Misha himself and his friends, who decided to perform for wounded soldiers to support them — are they not heroes too?
