Jan Grabowski (1882–1950) is undoubtedly one of the greatest animal writers of the past century. Those who are already familiar with Grabowski's characters from previously published books by Melik-Pashaev Publishing House—Mukha, Reksey, Tuzik, Ryzhiy, and others—will not pass by the author's new book. And those who are only now reading about the diverse, multi-breed, and multi-natured inhabitants of his hospitable yard will forever become fans of Jan Grabowski's work.

The collection "The Circus in the Yard" includes sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always wonderfully heartwarming and engaging stories about domestic (and not only) pets: cats, dogs, a donkey, a rooster, a wolf cub, and others. Frankly speaking, these characters are much better than some people…

In Boris Zakhoder's excellent translation-retelling, the author's natural intonation, irony, and self-irony, as well as his endlessly kind feelings toward our lesser brothers, are preserved.

Anna Vlasova's illustrations masterfully convey the emotions, habits, characteristic movements, and even moods of the characters in the stories.

Recommended for older preschool and younger school-age children, as well as, regardless of age, to all animal lovers and simply lovers of good literature.
