Marvin is an ordinary beetle whose family settled under the kitchen sink in the Pompadour family's New York apartment. James Pompadour is an ordinary eleven-year-old boy who received an inkwell and pen set for his birthday. And Marvin gave James a gift—he drew an exquisite miniature. All the glory went to James. Thus, quite unexpectedly, the two friends (who could anyone stop an eleven-year-old boy from befriending a beetle?!) found themselves part of and the main characters in a thrilling art mystery, where everything came together: a forgery of a great master's masterpiece, the cunning plans of robbers, and adventures filled with real danger. Will James manage to save the Metropolitan Museum from robbery and return Albrecht Dürer's lost drawings? One thing is certain—he won't be able to do it without Marvin's help.
