The True Story of Grandfather Frost: A Fairy Tale Novel. 8th ed., revised. Zhvalevsky A.V., Pasternak E.B.

…Railway engineer Sergei Ivanovich Morozov, while strolling through Kosoy Lane in Saint Petersburg on Christmas Eve before the New Year of 1912 with his wife Masha, gets caught in magical snow that, as it turns out, falls there once every fifty years. Without yet realizing it, the couple becomes the fulfiller of children's New Year dreams for the next half-century—Father Frost and the Snow Maiden. They are stunned by their new abilities and for a long time believe all the miracles they perform to be mere coincidences. But the novel's heroes have their eyes opened by the ptirki and okhli—members of a magical race who become their constant helpers during the pre-New Year days and nights…

"The True Story of Father Frost" combines a magical fairy tale with the real history of Russia in the 20th century. It is aimed at children aged 8–12, those who have not yet completely let go of their belief in a New Year miracle but are ready to learn the truth about the life and history of their country. For middle and older school ages.
