An island lost in the ocean, mysterious treasures, bloodthirsty pirates. A sturdy bowsprit, a larboard tack, a mizzenmast, thwarts, and sprit-tops. Adventure literature has always attracted the artist Igor Ilyinsky. He illustrated works by Mayne Reid and Anatoly Rybakov, Fenimore Cooper, and the Strugatsky brothers.
And the story of young Jim Hawkins could hardly have left the artist—a connoisseur of historical eras, an erudite, and a master of authentic details—indifferent. So the heroes of "Treasure Island" donned powdered wigs and tricorne hats, put on leather shoes with buckles, armed themselves with muskets and flintlock pistols, sabres, and naval cutlasses, and set out in search of Captain Flint's treasure.
