Lydia Charskaya is a Russian writer who was exceptionally popular with young readers in the early 20th century, who even ranked her alongside N. V. Gogol and A. S. Pushkin. Children loved the works of Lydia Charskaya, who wrote more than 100 novels, short stories, and fairy tales for them. One of her most famous works is the novel “Lizočka’s Happiness.” This is an extraordinarily captivating story about the fate of ten-year-old Liza Okoltseva, who by chance found herself in a children’s theater—not as a spectator, but as a real actress. Still very young, Liza had to face cruelty, heartlessness, and betrayal from the people who seemed closest to her, but the girl did not become bitter; she always believed that people possessed far more kindness, sincerity, compassion, mercy, and, of course, love.
