1899, Texas. Eleven-year-old Calpurnia is interested in nature and records all her observations and questions in her diary. Why do dogs have eyelashes? Why are yellow grasshoppers large, while green ones are small? Her grandfather, a self-taught naturalist, helps her. But there are six more brothers living in the house and conservative parents. And in their opinion, if you are a girl born at the dawn of the 20th century, you should only be interested in good manners and table setting. But what if science could open the path to freedom?

Daphne Collihonn is a French artist who turned Jacqueline Kelly's book of the same name into a graphic novel.
