No matter what fantastic story Diana Wynne Jones, author of the acclaimed “Spellsong” series, tells her readers, they are sure not to be bored. This time, even Scheherazade might envy her. Readers can expect a magical mystery and a fairy tale, cunning and love, the kidnapping of a princess (and not just one), celestial realms and castles in the sky, scorching deserts and dense forests, bandits and sorcerers, as well as familiar characters from “Howl’s Moving Castle.”
Once upon a time in a faraway southern land, there lived a young man named Abdullah. He sold carpets at the bazaar, but more than anything in the world, he loved building castles in the sky, dreaming of wonders, and imagining marrying a beautiful princess. But before Abdullah could acquire a magic flying carpet and meet a real princess, his peaceful life came to an end: the delightful Night-Blooming Flower was immediately kidnapped by a terrible ifrit. And so began a thrilling adventure...
Soon Abdullah discovered, whether he liked it or not, that castles in the sky can be more than real, and that the people (and not only people) you meet on your travels are not at all who they first appear to be!
