It turns out that such a useful and important invention for humanity as plumbing was created in Ancient Rome. Drinking water from street fountains, getting water for cooking, and washing in public baths was affordable for all residents, but only very wealthy people could have water piped into their homes.
The educational story "And We Have Plumbing," published as part of the children's book series "Nastya and Nikita," will help boys and girls learn about the amazing journey of water into a person's home.
Children will enjoy reading for themselves how the first plumbing system in Moscow was built, what water towers are and how they fall short compared to pumping stations, how water from a lake or river is made safe to drink by purifying it of microbes, and how "used" water is treated before it is returned to the river or lake.
The book is illustrated with drawings by Elena Popovskaya, allowing readers to visually follow the journey of water.
