The Great Patriotic War is raging. The peaceful life of the small Belarusian village of Malinki is interrupted suddenly and mercilessly: the settlement found itself in the path of the German landing force and was completely destroyed by the fascists. Miraculously surviving teenager Sasha, Grandpa Nikita, Grandma Ulyana, and several rescued little ones leave for the lost Andryushkin Island, hidden among the forests and marshes… Sofia Radzievskaya's captivating novella will tell readers about the life of this small and courageous group. And also—that in both peaceful times and times of severe trials, kindness, friendship, courage, and readiness to help are valued above all else. The book's illustrations were created by Yulia Kazarnitskaya, whose expressive graphic drawings bring to life an endlessly kind story of the courage and resilience of adults and children.
