One day at breakfast, Pavlik announced to his parents: "You know, Mom and Dad, I'm not a boy anymore. I'm a bird!" His parents were surprised, of course, but they didn't show it. Dad helped Pavlik build a little house in an apple tree, and the boy moved in, just like a nest. Soon Pavlik met a family of birds living in the tree next door. And here's the interesting part: it turned out their little chick had decided that he wasn't a chick at all, but a human boy!
The two families, one of birds and one human, became very close friends and made an agreement: the bird parents would look after Pavlik and teach him how to sing, fly, and catch insects, while the human parents would take in the little chick so he could grow up as a human boy. They even gave the little chick a name – Pashka.
The children were absolutely delighted. Pavlik loved living like a bird, and Pashka loved living like a boy. But autumn was approaching. That meant the flock of birds would have to fly south with Pavlik, and Pashka would have to start first grade.
Will Pavlik be able to fly all the way to Africa? Will Pashka manage to get along with his classmates? Amazing adventures await them both. We can tell you now that both Pavlik and Pashka will succeed. After all, their mothers and fathers believed in them, never doubted their children's abilities, and were always there to help them with everything.
