Zorro is one of those dogs trained from early childhood to be a tracker. He is obedient, quiet, extremely attentive—and most importantly, he can scent a person even in the deepest forest. Or beneath a thick layer of snow. Rescuing those in trouble is not only Zorro's job, but also his passion. And the first to thank the dog was Luca—a 19-year-old snowboarder who was caught in an avalanche one ill-fated day. Luca is not just grateful to Zorro—watching his daily feats, the young man decides to change his life and become a professional volunteer for Alpine Rescue. And for that, he needs his own four-legged companion. Puppy from the dog shelter could be just that. There, at the shelter, Luca meets an amazing girl named Marie, but it is so difficult to get along with her! And only Zorro helps him do it.
The stories of Zorro, Luca, and Marie intertwine in a striking way, revealing the psychology of each character—including the dog.

The novella by Italian writer Paola Dzanoner (born in 1958) is equally appealing to teenagers and adults. In her home country, she won several major literary awards: Castello (2016), Bancarellino (2015), Astid'AppelloJunior (2017).
The novella "Zorro in the Snow" is modern, candid, and truthful: you can easily recognize your friends in the characters, except that not every friend talks so thoroughly about the hidden sides of life. Then again, not every friend can say anything: a rescue dog, for example, is forced to remain silent—Paola Dzanoner corrects this injustice.
For middle and high school ages.
