The main character, Astrid Baros, is ten years old, and on her birthday she makes a responsible decision: not to grow up. After all, as people grow up, they only get worse! Just look closely at her parents: they have separated, are living with other people, and hardly pay any attention to Astrid. However, the girl thinks they are not yet beyond hope—and she comes up with a daring plan to reconcile her mom and dad. Go alone to an uninhabited island in Sweden and turn off her phone. They will, of course, come for her, and maybe they will make up and live together again.
But even a brilliant plan is not immune to surprises. Astrid does not yet suspect that the island is not actually uninhabited and that her family is about to find itself at the center of a detective story."

When Astrid Baros turned ten, she decided that she did not want to grow up: "People grow up, and their hearts shrink, and there is less room in them." Her mom now has a new friend, her dad has a new girlfriend, and Astrid is forced to live between two homes, like a North Sea oil rig worker. Her parents have become complete strangers and seem to have stopped listening to her.
Astrid, who plays the role of Pippi Longstocking in a school production, is not used to backing down from difficulties. She carefully develops a plan of action. She needs to make her parents worry a little. For example, go alone to a well-known island in Sweden and turn off her phone. They will, of course, come for her, and they will manage to talk. And maybe—who knows?—they will make up and live together again.
But even a brilliant plan is not immune to surprises. As she gets into the boat, Astrid does not yet suspect that the island is not actually uninhabited and that her family is about to find itself at the center of a detective story.
The characters of Norwegian writer and musician Levi Henriksen (born in 1964) flee the city for the wilderness, for nature, where, thanks to their resilience and perseverance, they find hidden strengths within themselves. Astrid is a girl whose courage and resourcefulness can only be envied. The novella "The Devil's Island Angel" is reminiscent of the movie "Moonrise Kingdom" and will appeal to anyone who loves adventures.
