Seva Kotlov is an ordinary thirteen-year-old boy: he is in fifth grade, loves football, and dreams that one day his entire class will not be called to the blackboard. He is also a great dreamer and inventor: new brilliant ideas and bold plans strike Seva every day—that is usually how all his adventures begin. True, not every idea ends well, but… resourceful Kotlov never gets discouraged for more than five minutes in a row and always finds a way out of any situation! How Seva turns from an “unconscious boy” into an “adult, independent person” for one day; how he tries to figure out who, with the help of mysterious notes, sometimes helps and sometimes ruins his best plans; how he moves from Moscow to Zapolyare, where he writes “fantastic” notes—and they miraculously become pure truth, meets Vovka Ryzhik and his secret, and somehow manages to arrange the personal happiness of his older brother—all about the extraordinary adventures of the “great inventor” Seva Kotlov will be told in three novellas included in this book: “Under a Different Name,” “The Drummer’s Secret Signal, Or How I Kept a Diary,” “Seva Kotlov Beyond the Arctic Circle.” The cheerful, curious, and exciting stories are accompanied by Boris Vinokurov’s dynamic drawings.
