Polly had forgotten, forgotten everything…. Five long and wonderful years of friendship with Tom, their correspondence, the stories they made up together that somehow turned out to be true, the thrilling adventures, meetings and partings, joys and resentments, the threats from his relatives that forbade them to communicate… and how she herself had agreed to forget him. But the strangest thing was that everyone else had forgotten about it too. It was as if someone had erased everything that had been in Polly's life and replaced her memories with a dull fake. Even the book Tom had given her had mysteriously transformed: some stories had disappeared, while others had been rewritten. And only a picture of blazing passionflower flowers helped her remember the past and understand who and why had deprived her of her memory. It all started when one Halloween Polly, defying her grandmother's strict prohibition, snuck into the old mansion next door… For middle school children.
