Vasilievsky Island is one of St. Petersburg's most famous and historic districts. This book tells why the wind always blows on the island, what the Rostral Columns are, and when Egyptian sphinxes appeared on the banks of the Neva River. It also tells of terrible floods and famous people who lived in these parts.

About the Author

Dina Arsenieva. As a child, I loved changing everything. For example, my own name. After reading the beautiful ancient Greek myth of Perseus and Andromeda, I decided that from then on, I would be Andromeda. The doctor at the children's clinic who treated me for a cold was named Laura. I immediately realized that this was it – my new, wonderful name. And after watching a movie whose heroine was named Stella... well, you know.

But while still studying at the theater institute, I got a job at the radio, then television, and then – a new turn! - literature. And the most wonderful genre of all – children's literature. While the book is being written, the happy author feels as though they have returned to the time when they loved changing everything. No, I no longer want to experiment with my name, but why not get a job in the circus? That hasn't happened yet, but it's not too late...
