Boris Vasilyev. And the Dawns Are Quiet Here...
Viktor Astafyev. The Shepherd and the Shepherdess
Vasily Bykov. To Go and Not Return

The collection includes three novellas about the Great Patriotic War: "And the Dawns Are Quiet Here..." by Boris Vasilyev, "The Shepherd and the Shepherdess" by Viktor Astafyev, and "To Go and Not Return" by Vasily Bykov.
All the authors know firsthand what the Great Patriotic War was like—they themselves took part in combat operations and experienced both the joy of victory and the sorrow of loss. They write about ordinary people caught in the harshest conditions of war, about their experiences, feelings, and moral choices, and about how, without regard for their own lives, yesterday's girls and boys fought the enemy to the very end, doing everything for the great victory.
The novellas are recommended for older schoolchildren.
